Blog EntryBoycott Multiplly DAW???Jan 18, '08 1:52 AM
for everyone

This is in response to a blogger’s call for a Multiply boycott.

http://mikeabundo.com/2008/01/15/multiply-user-calls-for-boycott/

You guys don’t get the point here.... you don't just compare Multiply to YouTube... YouTube is a VIDEO SHARING WEBSITE... Multiply on the other hand is a SOCIAL NETWORKING SERVICE with emphasis on allowing users to share media - such as photos, videos, and music and blog entries.

See the BIG difference there? It’s not all about the Music sharing features of Multiply. They have other features to take care of. In the case of YouTube, they have no other choice but to comply with the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA) because video sharing is there bread and butter or be liable to the copyright law. I don’t need to read or to understand the provisions set in the DMCA but I know its essence on why it is created.

“Crippling” Multiply’s features in the expense of its customers is an over statement. I wouldn’t call it “crippling”, I would rather call it “downgrade”. And it is a BUSINESS decision. They cannot sacrifice the whole system just because you want to keep the music download link for your mp3 appetite which almost the people in the world know it’s an illegal act. I wonder if many of the users here know the consequences to what will happen to the lawsuits the entities have thrown at Multiply. But no matter what the outcome is, I guess they won't even care. I myself don’t know what will happen but I hope it will not come to the point of Multiply being shut down.

Anyway, these people are calling for a boycott of Multiply because they feel they have been cheated. They claim that they had invested time & money setting up their Multiply accounts. Setting up for what? For the tons of FREE mp3 downloads? They are enjoying every single minute of it and then suddenly Multiply pulled the plug. And then they start to whine like spoiled brats. What they didn’t know is there are some other ways (don’t bet on this one because sooner or later the suing entities will bound to discover it and probably tear it apart) to download mp3s from Multiply. But I guess these people wanted to be spoon fed.

I’m only disappointed at Multiply because they didn’t inform us about the whole shebang although they knew what was really happening. Maybe because they want to keep it a low profile and probably, they think that they can clear up the mess before it goes out in public. Or maybe I have missed the thread about it.

Hey, I love sharing and downloading music as much as anybody here does. But I know for a fact that what I’m doing is illegal. I actually downloaded 22,000 mp3s in a span of 7 months. But I also like to share my pathetic photos and blogs to people who are interested in my stuff. And so does anybody else around here. The changes sucks at first, but I realize that there are other features Multiply can offer. And they are still working their assess off to compliment the changes made.

This is a free world. You can do all that you want. But you don’t have to drag people to join you for some unreasonable act. You have to look at the big picture first before you act. If you’re not happy or not satisfied for the service Multiply is giving you, then you are free to cancel your accounts and look for a website that will suit your needs. As simple as that. And you don’t have to be a Com Sci whiz kid to understand that.

oh well, musicians here too values their intellectual properties. You will only have the right to access their music if you ask for their consent. You cant just grab anything without permission from the owner and acknowledging him or her. That is if you know what RESPECT means...

and FYI, you can still download the MP3s here, just play the mp3 playlist/album on your windows media player and save each respective mp3 file on your hardrive... i hope that will stop you from ranting. but please ask permission as courtesy lol!

Of the hundreds of mp3's uploaded and downloaded to and from the site, do we have to know what music is copyrighted or not? Which music is legal or illegal to download? I don't even see the point there.

I think this one maligned your POV about this post, Sir Mike. Here’s the link:

He’s a funny guy, Lusanto. He thinks all music downloading is illegal. He forgets that there are actually musicians on Multiply. "

- AS IV'E SAID BEFORE DUMBASS.... "Of the hundreds of mp3's uploaded and downloaded to and from the site, do we have to know what music is copyrighted or not? Which music is legal or illegal to download? I don't even see the point there.

EVEN YOU ARE LIKE BEETHOVEN... WHO IN THE WORLD WOULD DOWNLOAD YOUR CRAP...

No, Multiply shut down music downloads because they’re weak — too weak to stand up for their legitimate customers and process DMCA takedown notices on a case-to-case basis. "

- AGAIN... IT'S A BUSINESS DECISION SMARTASS... UNLESS YOU'RE THE BOARD DIRECTOR... YOU'LL PROBABLY HAVE A KNACK OF THEIR APPROACH OF THE SITUATION...

I DON'T HAVE TIME FOR THIS SH*T... JUST THE SAME I'LL SAY IT AGAIN...
