IR Simulation

I wake up 9AM to prep up my gears because i was going back to ground zero (Hac-sa) to visit my favorite shooting site. The weather this morning was great. I was all dressed up 4PM when the rain started to fall. SHOOOT! WTF!!!! So this is what i end up!

(NOTE: shots are taken on Mt. Ugo in Itogon, Benguet)

Revolution In Me

Anticipating a fine weathered weekend, I decided to go on a quest to find the ugliest spot on the beach of Hac-sa here in Macau thinking how can i make it more attracting to would be tourists or visitors. It's been quite a challenge because it may end up wrong or a disaster if i don't make it right. Tourists and guests will be disgusted or turned away to see how hideous Macau is through my pictures. And it will be all my fault. By the way, Hac-sa Beach is already really hideous compared to the beaches we had there in Boracay or Bohol. And I am photographically challenged to accept this personal mission.

After all the troubles getting there, the traffic, long ride, long walk, etc., my personal assessment on my shots would be FAIR. Nothing extraordinary, as we sometimes say it, less is more. DUH! Ang layo ah?!

This album is dedicated to my photo buddies, Sir Allan S. (Nikon D300) and Sir Allan P. (Nikon D80), who went to Hong Kong without me. Due to financial constraint, I end up ...

What is your Digital Workflow?

As one of the many serious photographers of this community, can you describe how you execute your digital workflow?

Here's mine:

1. I first create a folder in my PC (i'm not a Mac user). Naming it the date i shot the photos (mm/dd/yyyy) + the location of the photo taken. eg. 082208 Hacsa Macau.

2. I plug in my Canon 40D into my PC. I look for the drive that indicates where my photos of my cam are located. Notice that i didn't use a card reader because it is fast as it is than through cable. It last around 5 minutes for about 200 RAW picture files. And then I copy or drag them to the folder i created.

3. Then I open my DPP (Digital Photo Professional) software to view my RAW picture files.

4. I delete garbage photo. Garbage photo includes out-of-focus, unrepairable over exposed & under exposed shots, blurred photos, etc.

5. Rotate vertical shots. Select em all non vertical shots and click rotate in one motion.

6. Select best photo one by one. I PP them straight in my DPP. Correct exposure...

YAPAK's Outreach Program @ Dinalupihan, Bataan

Y.A.P.A.K. Mountaineering Inc. launched it's first ever outreach program since forming the group in 2006. The program named "Balik Eskwela Outreach Program" aimed at helping children from this barangay by providing them ample supply of school supplies (bags, notebooks, pencils, slippers, umbrella, etc.) so that they may go on with their daily routine to school with the proper tools. The real service and outreach happen when people look outside of themselves, and some of the most important work can take place when people cross social boundaries and truly embrace "the other". That's what exactly YAPAK did when they went to Brgy. Pita in Dinalupihan, Bataan. They hiked and climbed for almost hours of land just to reach the Pita elementary school along with them dozens of packed supplies of school paraphernalias and stuffs.

I don't know much about the place. All I know is that Aetas or the indigenous people of Bataan live among these far flung places away from most of the ciivilization ...

RAW Power

This is like the few times I used RAW on my photos. The last time i remember using RAW was when i still had my 400D. Until that, I forgot to use it... because as an excited newbie... you tend to make many photos regardless of what shutter life does your camera have. From 300-400 images from one shoot, down to 100-200. Improvement of shots? NAH! Yes, it's RAW. Maybe now i'm beginning to fully grasp and realize the advantages of shooting in RAW. You don't need to worry about anything. Just compose and shoot your heart out with it. Over exposed? Under exposed? No problem, tweak it with your RAW conversion software platform and it all goes perfectly fine. Time consuming? Well, if you care more about what your images would look like, then there ain't no trouble going thru the process.

So if i were you guys... shoot RAW!

Photos are taken with my Canon 40D + Canon 10-22mm f/3.5-4.5. I've dettached my Tokina CPL filter because as you may know, it brings down my images to 2 stops. Plus i...

The 10-22 is widely considered to have very good image quality (sharp and low distortion) and build. The optical construction is similar to L-series lenses, but it is not designated as L-series (as reflected in the build quality), which some have argued is for marketing reasons, as with the 17-55.

"This is an extremely sharp lens, at all three tested focal lengths."
"The Canon 10-22mm has much less distortion than any wide zoom I've tested"
"There is moderate barrel distortion at 10mm, a negligible amount at 15mm, and only a tiny amount...

MY GEAR: Canon 50mm f/1.8 II lens

The EF 50mm f/1.8 II is an economy level lens, it was designed to replace the EF 50mm f/1.8. Because of its low price but relatively high optical quality, this lens has excellent value. It is constructed with a plastic body and mount. This lens has a very simple design and has no features. A 5 blade, maximum aperture of f/1.8, gives this lens the ability to create depth of field effects. The optical construction of this lens contains 6 lens elements, without any special lens elements. This lens uses a front extension focusing system, powered by a micro motor. Auto focus speed of this lens is moderately fast, and does make some sound. Front of the lens does not rotate when focusing, but does

MY GEAR: Canon EOS 40D

The Canon EOS 40D is a 10.1-megapixel semi-professional digital single-lens reflex camera. It was initially announced on August 20, 2007, and was released at the end of August 2007. It is the successor of the Canon EOS 30D and can accept EF and EF-S lenses, and like its predecessor, it uses an APS-C sized image sensor, resulting in a 1.6x field of view crop factor.

Improvements

Changes over the Canon EOS 30D include a higher-resolution sensor that retains the same dimensions and 1.6 crop factor relative to full-frame 35mm format. While the sensor is based on that of the consumer grade Canon EOS 400D, improved microlenses are employed to keep noise to levels at least as low as the 30D and much lower than the 400D. The LCD rear screen size is increased to 3.0 inches from 2.5 inches. Other changes include a larger 17 frame RAW / 75 frame JPEG buffer, and slightly faster 59 ms shutter lag, with a maximum frame rate of 6.5 frames/second (up from 5). The 40D uses the same diamond layou...

My New DSLR (Nikon D300)

GOTCHA!!! hahaha. It's not mine actually. I just borrowed it from my officemate, Sir Allan. He just purchased a new lens, the just released (April) Tokina 11-16mm f/2.8, ordered straight from Hong Kong. This is the sharpest UWA fast lens in the market today. Besting the likes of Nikkor 12-24mm and the Canon 10-22mm, with minimal to no distortion effect.

I envy this guy. To just hold this beauty in my hands is like parking his BMW in the parking lot. hahaha. If only i have the bucks, i would.... haaaay.

His Nikon D300 + Nikkor 18-200mm f/3.5-5.6 VR + Tokina 11-16 f/2.8mm. Mouthwatering!

If you're going to ask me how much is the Tokina, he wouldn't tell me! That bastard! hehehe. My guess is around 700USD or roughly 30kPHP.

Sample photos will follow so you will know how it looks like in the field.

Basta hindi ako papatalo. I'll get my Canon 10-22mm in the near future. hehehe.

(These photos are taken only with my Nokia
